July 23 : First Telstar communications satellite transmission from North America
to Europe. CBC participated.
CBC FM network suspended temporarily.
1964
CBC FM network resumed operations.
June : The Canadian goverment announced the colour television policy for Canada.
A reporter named J. Frank Willis broadcast for 69 hours from the scene of a
mining disaster in Moose River, Nova Scotia. It was broadcast on 58 Canadian
radio stations, and 650 American radio stations.

July 1: The start of overnight test transmission of colour television.
September 1: First colour television programming.
1967
Canadian Centennial Year. 1,500 hours of special programming on CBC Radio and
Television.
April 27 : International CBC telecast, by space satellite, of Expo '67's official opening.
June 25: Our World, first live global telecast by satellite. CBC contributed sequences from Canada and carried the full program on its French and English TV networks.
July 23- August 6: CBC acted as the official broadcast agency for all Canadian and
foreign coverage of the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg. The games got the
highest ratings ever.
1968
March 2: All-night music and news programming on CBC Radio, it was
broadcast under the Emergency Broadcasting Plan.
June 9: First television "national debate" among Canadian political party leaders. Total viewing audience was more the 9 million.
June 25: Federal Election. Total audience for CBC Radio and Television coverage was nearly 14 million.
July: Goverment policy announcement on the opening of UHF television channels.
August: Initial goverment contracts awarded for development of a Canadian communications satellite system.
September: Atlantic pre-release facilities in operation, making it possible for
Maritimes and Newfoundland viewers to see most CBC network programs at local
hours corresponding to other time zones.
1969
June 27: The Telesat Canada Act was passed, to "establish a Canadian corporation
for telecommunication by satellite".
November: 50th anniversary of radio broadcasting in Canada.
