CBC Butterfly Logo | Canada's Centenial Celebrations | The Friendly Giant
CBC Butterfly Logo
For TV viewers who were used to seeing the world in black and white, the fall of 1966 proved to be surprisingly colourful. CBC celebrated the arrival of colour TV by spreading its wings with this butterfly logo by Hubert Tison, as the announcer intoned those unfogettable words: "A CBC Colour Presentation." The butterfly logo had an 8 year run before all was said and done.

Canada's Centenial Celebrations
Richard (age 12)
That was cool! All those kids my age singing "Canada" in front of millions of people. I wish I was there with them!! Also, that song that they didn't stop playing, I think it's called the "Pied Piper of the States" or something like that, I can't really remember (not that I'd want to or anything!). I think I also saw the Queen, and maybe a glimpse of Prince Philip. My daddy told me that the announcer had much potential. I think his name was Lloyd Robertson.

The Friendly Giant
Rhoda (age 15)
My brother watches this show every time it's on, and the worse part is, that my parents' say that HE has the right to watch what he wants, and I can't watch what I want!! I don't see what this show is all about, it's just about a giant that tells stories, and has some animal puppets and it is all in a make-believe world... How strange!!

Weekend
Weekend was a CBC current affairs show which ran from 1969 to 1973. It exemplified the lavish and exotic visual style of the late 1960's - up-beat music, flashy clothes, pseudo computer graphics and spaceage sets. Weekend was hosted by a youthful and unusually flamboyant Lloyd Robertson.
