The Russian Satellite Sputnik
Sputnik: was a series of three satellites sent into orbit by the Former U.S.S.R to study the effects of space on living organisms.
The U.S.S.R began the race for space when they launched the first satellite Sputnik 1 (Sputnik means "Traveling Companion"). This satellite was launched n 1957 it weighed 184 pounds. The purpose was a test satellite with a simple radio and a thermometer. Yet the U.S believed they were receiving secret information via the satellites beep beep beep.
The Sputnik satellite was launched from BAIKOUR COSMODROME on Oct. 4. 1957 it was only a test payload of a radio and thermometer. It was referred to as a "ES" (elementary satellite).
