Saint George's YouthNet

Joseph Howe Breakfast Program
St. George's provides volunteers for daily breakfast at Joseph Howe School. The program was initiated by the school in the fall of 2001 to help working parents and struggling families.

Soup Kitchen
In November 2002 the Saint George's Soup Kitchen celebrated its 17th year. Operating out of the parish hall on Saturday afternoons, the Soup Kitchen is a collaborative effort involving many parishes and community groups. Those involved set up, prepare meals, pick up donated food, and clean up afterward.

Christmas Outreach
Each year the parish provides food hampers and gifts for neighbourhood families in need. In conjunction with Stepping Stone (an organization which supports women and men working the streets) the parish also hosts and helps plan the Stepping Stone Christmas dinner. About 70 women and children attend the event each year.

Restoration Quilters

Crib quilts ("linus quilts") are donated to various shelters and child and emergency organizations around Halifax including the police and fire fighters, Adsum House, IWK Children's Hospital and Children's Wish Foundation.

Mission to Seafarers
In conjunction with the Mission to Seafarers in Halifax, parishioners and the Sunday School provide gift boxes to seafarers in port (and away from home) each Christmas.

Inner City Initiative and Inner City Education Advisory Committee
Parishioners are active in both these groups which address issues of employment, education, health and overall happiness in the inner city.
