The History
|
When the first settlers arrived in Cape Breton, one of the first things they noted was the abundance of rich, plentiful coal seams. This played a major part in such monumental tasks as the construction of the Fortress Louisbourg. Over the years, control of the mines passed back and forth between private and crown concerns. Throughout, the history of the coal mines has been deep and varied. |
