Born in Montreal, Quebec in 1882, A. Y. Jackson joined the 60th Battalion as a private in 1915. After recovering from wounds received at the battle of Sanctuary Wood in June, 1916, Jackson was transferred to the Canadian War Records branch as an artist. Upon being discharged from the army in April 1919, Jackson returned to Toronto where he continued to paint. A.Y. Jackson, an artist with the Group of Seven, passed away in 1974.
