Sawblade: The sawblade is the
one most important items in a sawmill. The blade would havebeen very high quality to
ensure good clean cuts in the wood. Each different type of blade is specifically designed
for a certain type of wood. This blade was designed for softwood only.
This is the blade
that would have been used to make all the major cuts in a log. Many planks of wood were
made here; siding, support structures, and all other forms of lumber.
The blade would
have been treated with a lot of respect as safety features of such tools in the 1930s were
severely lacking. Many injuries arose because of this blade, so the workers were very
careful using it. If the blade broke, it would have been replaced as soon as possible,
since it was such a major part of the functionality of the sawmill. This blade is still
used today on choice occasions when the sawmill is put into running order. |
