Imagine going to school every morning and once you are there, you see no lockers, only coat hooks. You have to share the room with children who are almost ten years younger than you and you dont have a text book to call your own. This is what school was like for an average grade eight student living in the 1930s. This is the school that children living in the rural area of French Hill would have attended. This school was built in 1900. It was moved to Cumberland Museum in 1976 after it had been left empty for many years due to the opening of a replacement school. Children would have been lucky to have the opportunity to learn in such a school because until only a short time before, many children were stuck working on their farms or doing other hard labour jobs. Now that you have learned a little about this school, and what school life was like, its time to learn even more! Come on in! |
