Library:
It sure doesnt look like the kind
of library that we have in our schools today, does it? It was just a small bookcase but it
held all the books that were necessary. The books featured in this library include
teachers manuals on subjects such as grammar, arithmetic, household science,
household management and history as well as the textbooks that the children would have
used to learn these subjects. They do not sound exactly like the subjects that we take
today but these were the subjects that would have been important for children growing up
in the thirties. The library also holds many classic novels such as; Jane Eyre and David
Copperfield. It also holds religious books and text books which would have been shared by
the children (unlike today when we all have our very own textbooks). The library would
have been a very important part of French Hill School! |
