Model T
Ford: The Model T car was
built by the Ford Motor Company from 1908-1927. It was thought of as practical and
affordable transportation for everyone. The price of the car went from $850 in 1908 to less than $300 in 1925.
The Model T was offered in several different
models, including a five seat touring car, a two seat runabout and a seven seat town
car. Normally you could pick what color you wanted but from 1913-1925 the car was
only produced in black. The engine had four cylinders cast in a single block and the
cylinder could come off for easy access and repair. The engine had 20 horsepower
that allowed the car to reach speeds of 65-70 km/h. The transmission consisted of
two forward gears and one reverse. Spark and throttle were controlled by a hand lever on
the steering column. The 10 gallon fuel tank was under the front seat. The Model T
in the museum stills runs today. This car was one of the first cars ever built. It is
apparent that the Model T design had a lot of impact in shaping what our cars are like
