Book Press

SpacerThe book press was a precursor to today's photocopier. The paper to be copied would be placed between two pages in a book with onion skin pages. A damp cloth would be placed on top of the paper to be copied with a piece of cardboard on either side to prevent the dampness from seeping through the rest of the book. The book would be placed in the press which would be tightened and left overnight. The ink on the paper would dampen and copy onto the onion skin paper and a permanent copy would be made.
