General Store Main Room
The store was always a busy place. In the winter, someone would be telling a story as others gathered around the wood stove, warding off the cold from outside, or maybe a game of checkers or chess would be underway in a corner of the building. The general store was a place where all the latest news could be heard. Going to the store was a social outing that went beyond purchasing the necessary goods.
The counters in the front of the store are original. The counters were constructed from yellow birch and pine. They were put together with wooden pegs. It is told that the designs on the front of the counters resemble the design the Cumminger Brothers often used in the construction of their various vessels.
