Picture of Dan Patch

SpacerThis picture is of Dan Patch, the famous racing horse from the United States. He was born in 1896 and because of his crooked hind legs, some believed he would not be able to walk let alone race. Despite this, he began his racing career in 1900. He quickly rose through the ranks of the race horses, becoming "The Fastest Harness Horse the World has Ever Seen." His record of pacing a mile in 1:55 was set in 1906. Dan Patch continued racing until 1909. He died in 1916. This picture was probably from a promotion after Dan Patch's 1906 season to publicize an upcoming visit to an area by the famous horse.
