John Cumminger
 John Cumminger was a successful business man and his residence reflected his prosperity. He was born February 10, 1827 in Sherbrooke. Sarah, his wife was born in 1833. Legend claims that on a vacation in France he saw a Villa which caught his eye and he returned home with the plans in his pocket to build the home for Sarah. Greenwood Cottage was completed in the early 1870's. The beautiful home is anything but a cottage. This name is believed to have been used because of the intricate Gingerbread Cottage trim along the eaves of the home.
