Renova Cottage

Doctor's Office

SpacerDespite the fact that Renova Cottage is displayed as the Doctor's home and office in the early 1900's, it has a strong connection to the Cumminger family. The house and its design reflects the prosperity of the family.
SpacerThis house was built in the 1850's and was owned by John Cumminger. In 1871, John sold Renova Cottage to Samuel, his brother. Samuel was born November 12, 1839. He was a shipbuilder and a merchant. He married Deliah McDaniel of Sherbrooke on February 10th, 1866. In the 1860 Census, he is listed as living at the Forks of St. Mary's, a short distance up-river from Sherbrooke. In the 1870 Census, he and Deliah are listed under the district of Sherbrooke. It is speculated that he and his wife were living in the building that was once owned by his father, Henry. The 1880 Census lists Deliah as a widow, living in what is assumed to be Renova Cottage.
