Topic #6 Finale

Time: 1 period

Objectives:

  1. Students will recognize that Canada is a multicultural country made up of people with a variety of languages, religions, and customs.
  2. Students will recognize the contributions made by people from other countries to Canadian society.
  3. Students will strengthen their sense of cultural and political identity.
    1. Students will be able to determine the value that differences in culture bring to Canada.
    2. Students will be able to speak coherently and correctly about the topic of cultural diversity in Canada.

 

Resources:

  1. Food and clothes representing the various cultures in Canada.

 

Purpose: To celebrate cultural diversity in Canada and to bring a close to the unit.

Ideas:

  1. Cultural Celebration. Students dress in the traditional clothes of their culture or one that they are interested in. Each student brings in a food that is from his/her culture as well. Each student can colour in the flag of the country she/he is representing. Each student can share his/her family's origin, why his/her family came to Canada, and some information about his/her culture. Also, the people that the students interviewed earlier in the unit could be invited.
  2. If there is not a lot of diversity in the class then each student can choose a culture that he/she is going to learn about and represent.

 

Evaluation:

  1. Student enthusiasm, research and participation.
