Objectives:

• Demonstrate respect for people of all cultural backgrounds
• Discover, through home discussion and research, stories fo their own cultural heritage
• Explore their own ancestry by creating a story about their own ancestory that includes why and how they came to Canada
• Share with the class the stories fo their cultural heritage
• Appreciate the cultural contributions made to Canada by immigrants
• Show an understanding of the circumstances that bring refugees into Canada and the difficulties they face in coming to a new country
• Gain satisfaction from participating and from sharing the participation of others in various forms of artistic expression
• Develop an understanding of the role of the family within society
• Develop esteem for the customs, cultures, and beliefs of a wide variety of societal groups
