  • SKETCHING PAPER Used for quick studies, not full architectural drawings.

  • WOOD PENCILS Drawing pencils that have uniform graphite. Pencils that have no eraser on the end. There is various hardness of graphite.

  • PENCIL SHARPENER a regular sharpener that is used for wood pencils only.

  • PUSH PINS Clear plastic pins that are used to put up drawings.

  • DRAWING PAD A sketchbook used to hold rough drawings and sketches.

  • EXACTO KNIFE A sharp blade used to make precise cuts.

  • METAL RULE A ruler that is used in small-scale drawing board work.

  • PAPER The paper should be of good quality. Some types of paper include vellum, mylar, sketch, acetate, watercolour, pastel, and illustration board. The thickness and sizes of paper will depend on the specific task and different stages of work.

  • COMPASS A tool that is used to make circles. A drawing pen, pencil, or lead can be inserted into the extending arm. Sometimes there is another extension arm that is used to draw longer circles.

  • FRENCH CURVES A clear plastic curve that is used to draw smooth curves.

  • SHIP CURVES Originally used in ship design, this tool is used to draw longer straighter curves.

  • TECHNICAL PENS Ink pens used for precise ink drawings. The thickness can range from 0.13 to 2 mm.

  • STAINLESS STEEL NIBS The section of a technical pen in which the ink comes out. Tungsten and Jewel Tip are used abrasive surfaces, such as mylar.

  • INK RESERVOIR A container that holds the ink to be poured into technical pens.

  • IN ERASER An eraser that dissolves the ink chemically. As heat builds up from fiction, the ink will disappear. After 10 strokes, the ink begins to disappear.

  • COMPUTER PROGRAMS:

  • Mini-CAD A Macintosh program used in doing architectural drawings.

  • Auto-CAD An IBM program, similar to Mini-CAD. Both these programs enable an architect to manipulate an image, as rotating or making it three-dimensional. Auto-CAD and Mini-CAD can be used to replace the Architectural drawing tools listed above.
