In 1992, Ceperley Mansion was designated heritage. On Monday, July 13, 1998, the proposal of restoring the Ceperley Mansion, to its original state, was brought forward to the Burnaby Council (Jim Wolf. Personal interview). Although the Civic Development approved the restoration proposal, Council has not. Under this proposal, the following items are being approved, and if approved will proceed with funding:

Current verandah and towerEXTERIOR:

- the 2 storey tower, added by the Benedictines, will be removed; it is off the breakfast room
- the front verandah will be restored; a section of the original verandah was removed to allow more access to the chapel of the Benedictine monks
- the french doors will be put back in
- the original exterior colour, burnt sienna, will return

INTERIOR:

- the servants' staircase was partially demolished and will be replaced
- the floors will be restored to original state
- the closets; some closets were blocked off by the Burnaby Art Gallery to create more hanging space

Even if the Burnaby Council does not approve the restoration proposal for Ceperley Mansion, some work will be done on the exterior, such as the colour change.
