The old barn is a classic English barn built in the 1890's. It's typical of the barns built in North America from the first settlement days until the turn of the century. England, the Eastern United States and Eastern Canada were very populated with English style barns. Local adaptations were often made to these barns, adding to their own unique style. In England some barns had stone foundations, and the Annand/Rowlatt Barn was sided with unfinished cedar planks. The 1 by 12 planks are placed vertically.

The big barn is the typical blueprint of a North American barn. When you think of a barn, this gambrel-roof shape is the style most people would probably imagine. The barn was used for milking dairy cattle and it was equipped with stalls for the cattle.
