Bonus- Yes and No

DDT was intriduced aroung 1940. At the time, its properties of being a good insecticide were noticed. An insecticide is a chemical used to kill insects. However, DDT is non-specific, that means it kills not just one or two types of insects, but other related organisms too. It is also persistent, meaning that it or its residue (DDE) stay in the environment for a very long time. By the early 1970's, its harmful properties were known and it has since been banned from use in many countries, including all of North America. But, because it is so cheap to make, it is still being used in Thrid World Countries, including where peregrines spend their winters.
