This dugout is a natural phenomena. It is located near St. Peter's Abby in Saskatchewan, north-east of Saskatoon.

The water catchment was developed in the 1930's during the Dust Bowl to catch and store as much runoff as possible. It was designed to hold two years supply of water but the accumulation of sediment over the years has significantly reduced its water holding capacity.

Today, the water is used by St. Peter's Abby for irrigating their crops. It also provides a good habitat for many species of waterfowls.

A windmill has been added to circulate the water and add oxygen to the pond, the water is otherwise stagnant.
