John Work

"Mr. John Work died at Victoria in the year 1860. He originally spelled his name Wark. He entered service of the Hudson's Bay Company in his early youth crossing to this side early in his career and afterwards remaining continually on the coast in charge at various times of different posts and last of all of Victoria in conjunction with Dr. Tolmie and Mr. Finlayson."

Notes

John Work officially married Josette Legace, (daughter of Pierre Legace and a Spokane Chief's daughter), in 1849 in Victoria. However, they were married according to custom in 1826. They had eleven children and ran a large farm called "Hillside" near Victoria. Work became a member of the Legislative Council in 1854.
