The Rainy River Record Officially turns 75 August 29, 1994. However, this
special edition has been produced in part to recognize our 75th aniversary
as a publication.
Many changes have taken place over the past 75 years, including many design
changes and ownership changes.
For most of its history, the Record was owned and/or operated by members
of the Ricci family. Ten years ago Jim and Don Cumming and Linda Plumridge
(nee Cumming) purchased the paper. At that time they adopted the 4008 logo
for the paper. Building on that railway heritage only three years later,
the chamber of commerce created Railroad Daze, another reason for this special
heritage edition.
As readers have noticed over the past year, the Record has been touting
a streaked 4008 and 75 on its front page. The logo was redrawn by a graphic
artist at the Fort Frances Times and represents Rainy River thundering into
the future, full steam ahead.
The history recorded in the pages of the Record is vast. We have only reproduced
a small slice of the pie in this edition. Next Thursday, the Rainy River
Record will open its pages to the community. Copies of front pages of yesteryear
will be on display in our first ever halls of history open house from 9-4
at 312 3rd St. July 14. There will be no admission charge.

on file for design specifications and newscopy from the back.
