  John Fielding
    John is a professor of History and Contemporary Studies Curriculum at the Faculty of Education, Queen's University.  Prior to coming to Queen's in 1989, John taught secondary school for 24 years, both in Canada and Australia (1986).  Working with the CRB Foundation Heritage Project John co-authored the learning resources of We Are Canadians and Canadians in the Global Community.  He was also the designer and series editor for the source books Frontline on the Global Village (1991-1996).  Most recently John was co-project manager for the writing of the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum Canadian and World Studies.  John's favourite projects, however, allow him the opportunity to work with energetic and enthusiastic teacher candidates.

Katherine Katherine Graham
   Katherine is a graduate of the intermediate senior division of the Queen's Concurrent Education Program with her B.A. Honours in French with a minor in History. She has taught Grade nine through OAC French and looks forward to a full time teaching position where she could incorporate her enjoyment of teaching History as well.  As a dedicated teacher candidate at Napanee District Secondary School in the fall semester of 1998, Katherine co-supervised the French Club and aided in the production of the first-ever French play at the school. Katherine attended high school in Gloucester, Ontario and continues to harbour a love of the Ottawa and Kingston areas.  She enjoys traveling and would like one day to teach internationally. After too much experience as a barista, she sure can make a mean cappuccino!

Canada Canada's Contribution to World War II
David David Robert Butler
    David was a history major in the Queen’s University Concurrent Education Program, specializing in both Greco-Roman and Modern European History.  He graduated with First Class honours in 1997 and won two awards:  the John Sherwood Memorial Prize for top graduating student in European History and the Michael R.G. Harris Memorial Scholarship for essay writing.
    He then completed a Master of Philosophy degree at the University of Cambridge. The program, called European Studies, brought together 21 students representing 15 countries with backgrounds in history, politics, law, and economics.  David completed a 25,000 word dissertation entitled "The Expulsion of Philipe Égalité from the National Covention, 1792-3."
      David returned to Queen’s in 1998 to complete his Bachelor of Education in Intermediate-Senior History and English.  Studying at the Faculty allowed him to pursue three of his professional interests: incorporating art and music into history lessons, integrating
telecommunications into the classroom, and using innovative assessment techniques.
    Since graduating, David has worked as a supply teacher for two months, will teach Summer School in 1999, and has accepted a short-term Occasional position as a Geography teacher for the Fall.

Eliah Elijah L. Funston
    History is a demanding subject to study and teach. A good teacher is able to make history come alive in the classroom to allow students to appreciate what history can offer to them.  Eli thanks the teachers who encouraged his passion to study and teach history.
    Eli is a graduate of Trent University (H.B.A.) with a joint major in History and Canadian Studies.  He furthered his studies at the University of Waterloo obtaining a Masters of Arts in Public History.  Prior to reteturning to school this year to complete a Bachelor of Education at Queen's University, Eli completed several contracts for the federal government as a historical researcher and project manager.
    Eli lives with his wife in historic Perth, Ontario.

Mindy Mindy Poley
    As a graduating student from the Trent - Queen's Concurrent Education Program, Mindy has had the opportunity to work extensively with intermediate and secondary students in a variety of subject areas.  She is a deeply committed educator who is very interested in how students connect to the presented subject matter. It is her hope that you will find her unit on the First World War both interesting and informative, ultimately making meaningful and relevant connections for your students! Happy teaching.

Coreen Kieser
    Coreen Kieser feels privileged to have edited and vetted the Canadians in the Twentieth Century, Teaching Units for the SchoolNet site.  Coreen is a teacher and has taught with Rocky View School Division in Calgary, Alberta for nine years.  She has been an active member of the A.T.A. Calgary Regional Social Studies Council for three years.  Coreen has attended the National Institute for Creating Canadian Heritage and has been the co-chairperson of the Calgary Regional Heritage Fair.  She is a Graduate of Queen's University, (BA/B.Ed). She has travelled extensively both nationally and internationally.  Coreen and her husband presently reside in Kingston, Ontario where she continues to believe in and promote Canadian Heritage.

Canadian Heroes of the Twentieth Century
ChrisChris A. Sleeth 
    Chris has had the opportunity to teach History and English to a wide variety of students from grades 9-OAC.  He graduated from Queen's University Faculty of Education and has recieved his B.ED in English and History at the I/S level.  In addition to his work on Canada's Digital Collections, Chris was a panelist at the 'Giving the Past a Furtue' conference in Montreal and recently helped with the Kingston Regional Heritage Fair.  Presently Chris is finishing work for History Televsion's biographical series'The Canadians'.  He is also currelty looking for teaching opportunites both at home and abroad and looks forward to officially starting his career next fall.
