HOSPITAL OFFICIALLY OPENED

Humboldt's new 75 bed St. Elizabeth's Hospital was formally opened Wednesday, Sept. 7, by Dr. C.D.W. Cameron, Deputy Minister of National Health and Welfare; Premier T.C. Douglas, Hon. TJ. Bentley, provincial minister of health, and Hon. J.W. Burton, provincial secretary and M.LA. for Humboldt.

Plans for a new hospital were first discussed some six or more years ago when the increasing number of patients seeking

admission to St. Elizabeth's made it imperative that more accommodation be obtained, with added facilities for improved care and treatment of the sick and injured.

After much planning and many meetings, the way was finally cleared to proceed with construction of a new hospital in the fall of 1952. On May 4, 1953, the first sod was turned and on Aug. 12, 1955, patients were transferred to the completed building.

Actual cost of the building itself was $805,000.
