The regular meeting of the council of the Rural Municipality of Humboldt -No. 370- was held on Oct. 1st, the Reeve and all councilors present. The secretary read a letter from the Provincial Treasurer regarding the Saskatchewan Greater production Loan, asking the council for its support, which was agreed to.
The matter of the new school district, requested by Mr and Mrs. Aug. Lins, Anthony Jaeb and C. G. Whitmarsh was again considered, the secretary of the Veronika S.D. being present. It was moved by Coun. Schreiner, seconded by Coun. Streuby, that the proposed new school district shall include the following lands: The secretary read a letter from the Gull Lake R. M. regarding a petition and a resolution, asking that a weigh master and grader be appointed by the Dominion Government for each shipping point. After some discussion it was moved by Coun. Engele, seconded by Coun. Streuby that the communications be laid on the table. A letter from the Dept. of Agriculture, re: the potato crop, was |
read, and the secretary was instructed to reply that there was sufficient potatoes in the district and possibly a small surplus over local requirements. A letter from the Great War Veterans Association, asking for a grant, was received. After some discussion it was resolved to let the matter stand for a while. A communication, re: Fire Prevention Day, Oct. 9th, was received and the council agreed to comply with the request of the letter. A resolution of condolence moved by Coun. Strueby, seconded by Coun. Tegenkamp, was passed, expressing the council's sincere and heartfelt sympathy for their much esteemed Reeve, J. W. Burton, in the death of his beloved wife. Accounts for road work and supplies, amounting to $142.60, were passed. The Reeve gave a verbal report of his inspection of road work in the municipality, and expressed his approval on some work and disapproval on others. He called the special attention of council to some poor road work done by some road foreman, and said that ". . .a remedy must be found; in some cases more trusty road foremen must be engaged, or the work done by contract."
