TOWN WILL CHANGE SOURCE OF WATER SUPPLY

The town of Humboldt is going to change its source of water from Stoney Lake to Burton Lake. The council has been negotiating with officials of the C.N.R. for some time on a proposal for the company to supply the town with water from Burton Lake, from which they derive their own supply for the Humboldt terminal. An agreement has finally been made, satisfactory both to the company and to the town. The question of the purity of Burton Lake water for domestic use has been satisfactorily settled, the council having been advised by the Local Government Board that they have received a certificate from the Commissioner of Public Health, granting his consent to the proposed change in the source of water supply from Stoney Lake to Burton Lake.

Under the agreement, the town will pay the company 18 cents per 1000 gallons, with a minimum of $8.00 per day. The town to provide and install all pipes, fittings, etc., required, and to install an improved water meter. The agreement

protects the railway company in the event of the supply being cut off, or suspended, or if found only sufficient for the railway requirements. The agreement is for one year.

The railway company will pump the water into the town from their plant at the lake. The town will pump it into the water tower. A building will be erected near the power house to accommodate the pumping engine and the filters. These will be transferred from the pumping house at Stoney Lake. The estimated cost to the town in making the change is about $4,000.

The council's main reasons for making the change is economy and to furnish a better quality of water for domestic use.

The town is now inviting tenders for the necessary work required. The principal items of cost will be the new building, and the moving of the filters and pumping engine from the pumping house at Stoney Lake.
