Sainte Croix Island
400 ans d'histoire

Port-Royal 2005
After suffering from scurvy, starvation and intense cold, Pierre Dugua de Mons and 35 French settlers moved, in 1605, from Sainte Croix Island to build a settlement on the mainland. Port-Royal was founded and became the first permanent French settlement in North America. In 2005, celebrations will be organized to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Port-Royal. Many activities are planned to celebrate the colonization of Acadia by the French and their landing in the Annapolis Valley.
