Port-Royal National Historic Site of Canada
Plan of the replica of the Port-Royal Habitation built by Parks Canada

Managed by Parks Canada, Port-Royal National Historic is located in Annapolis Royal (Nova Scotia). The Habitation found on this site is a replica of the French settlement and its buildings, before the destruction of Port-Royal by Samuel Argall in 1613. This replica was built according to the sketches left by Samuel de Champlain. Tourists can visit different dwellings and also admire more than a thousand objects typical of this period of time. Parks Canada acquired the site in 1923 and designated it as a national historic site. Completion of this replica was in the 1930's: it was the first important reconstruction project undertaken by the Canadian government. Visitors can learn about the life of French settlers, their traditions, their culture, their activities, their relations with Native people, and their legacy thanks to heritage interpreters wearing traditional outfits.
