The Kensington residents fought anything that
they perceived as diminishing or demolishing their
community including:
The Spadina Expressway.
The Urban Renewal Program.
The expansion of Toronto Western Hospital.
The expansion of the University of Toronto.
The expansion of Provincial Institute of
Trades, which later became George Brown College
in 1968.
The Toronto Board of Education who wanted
to build a new school.
The Kensington Communitys
greatest fear was that development could lead
to the expropriation of land and the demolition
of existing buildings and could destroy much of
the neighbourhoods character.
