In 1993, during the final excavation season, the team was fortunate to discover a door and the stairs that linked the ladies cabin, on the lower deck, to the dining room, on the main deck.
The staircase was composed of ten steps. It was painted white and originally encased in a boxlike frame. Evidence found shows that the steps were covered with a carpet. A reconstruction of the remains provides a clear indication of the height of the cabins on the lower deck as 2.2 meters.
