RSYE as a Social Investment

While RSYE tries to operate as a business, it also faces certain unique challenges that "conventional" businesses do not face:

RSYE provides opportunities to youth that most businesses consider to be "unemployable".

To RSYE, success means losing our best workers! Most businesses that invest training in their workforce try to hang on to them for as long as they can. RSYE's goal, on the other hand, is to have its youth return to school or find regular employment.

Both of these factors mean that RSYE's operating costs are somewhat higher than a regular business would face. Our staff must spend additional time on coaching and supervising youth. RSYE also spends time and energy developing the kinds of jobs that will work best with the youth we serve.

In the end, the community benefits by having: fewer youth on social assistance, fewer youth involved in criminal activities, and more youth employed or back in school and contributing to the local community.

RSYE is a social investment in the community that benefits both the public and the private sector, as well as all members of the community.
