Artillery Storehouse and Forge

The forge was where the making of the tools for construction took place, including ironwork. Some examples of these tools were chisels, hammers, and hinges and hooks for doors and shutters. It also provided a great necessity, the wagonwheel.

Most forged materials that would be needed were imported from France. Some examples of this were nails and oxen shoes. The amount that was predicted that the colonists would need were imported. However, there were always times when they would run out of such materials. It was then that the forge would make nails and other things that might be needed by the townspeople.

Since most everything was imported from France the main job at the forge was repairing broken tools. This wasn't a difficult job so there were only three or four people working in the forge for twelve hours a day.
