Charles Christien is known to have come to White Valley around 1881 but it could have been a little bit earlier. He married Emma Genier in 1882 at his brother Louis' house. They made their first home at the Mission where their first child was born a daughter, Nora. Christien's wife Emma, stayed at the mission while he made a claim for lot 162. In 1889 the crown grant was received and his declaration was witnessed by Tom Christien and Candide Quesnel.

Emma stayed at the mission until the baby was old enough to travel then joined her husband on their new land. They stayed in a tent on the land while their log cabin was being built. Joseph gave them cattle and pigs to start their farm. Five more children were born into the family, Nelly, Eva, Clara, Charlie and Frank. The Christiens (who now spell their name Christian) worked the farm for 30 years. When they retired and moved to Vernon their son's took over the farm. Charles passed away in 1924 at age 70 and Emma passed away in 1948 at age 94.
