Pierre DeLorme, came to Lumby in 1907, looking for land. He happened to stop at the Coldstream Hotel and there he met George Leger who had a farm with a huge house. They made a deal and Pierre moved in paying $15 dollars a month rent. He worked here and there, if not on the Leger's farm then at Bessette's Saw mill close nearby. By this time he was also the leader in the church choir.

Early in 1908 he sent for the family. They arrived in Vernon in on a lovely January day. They stayed at the Coldstream Hotel for a week until their furniture arrived from Winnipeg.

They stayed at the farm until May, then they moved into a new house in the Village of Lumby. He then moved to Vernon a year or two later and acquired shares in the Royal Hotel, now known as the National Hotel.
