"Grand Metis river and the seigneurial rights were purchased by Lord Mount Stephen a number of years ago. A large sum was paid for the property, and fully four times as much was afterwards expended in the improvement of it. A part of the improvement was the building of what is modestly termed a fishing lodge. It cost about $45,000 and is the finest house of its kind in Canada. It is located on a height overlooking the St. Lawrence, close to the shore at Grand Metis. The building is designed with every regard for comfort and convenience, and a feature of the interior is the finish of polished woods brought from the Pacific coast."
