House of Commons Restoration
The Linen Ceiling in the House of CommonsRestoration of the linen ceiling in the House of Commons was difficult. In order to do the work, a false ceiling had to be constructed so that the original painted designs could be cleaned without interrupting sessions of Parliament. Eleanor Milne sought assistance from outside sources. Anthony Miranzi, an expert in linen restoration, and Alan Beddoe, a heraldry designer, worked with Milne to complete the ceiling. Milne made full-scale drawings of Beddoe’s designs which acted as a pattern for the final linen painting.

The work took eight months to complete. Athough Milne joked about suffering from Michaelangelo's stomach, a mythical condition of dropped stomach muscles resulting from too much time spent lying on scaffolding, she acknowledges that Michaelangelo did some "pretty good work."
