Construction of Alcan Highway

Building the Alaska Highway
Prior to 1942, road access was already in place between Dawson Creek and Fort St. John. Men and equipment necessary for Alaska Highway construction came to Dawson Creek, rails end, and then by road to Fort St. John. Actual first time construction began at Charlie Lake, Mile 0.0 of the Canadian - Alaskan Military Highway. Nowadays, Dawson Creek is commonly thought of as Mile 0 but North Peace residents believe differently and have the photos to back up their claims!
