Anne Young

Anne Young
Born Anne Roberts, she traveled from Brighton, England to Fort St. John in the spring of 1930 to work as a registered nurse at the Red cross outpost Hospital in what is now Grandhaven. She also performed the duties of the District Public Health Nurse. She stayed with the Birley sisters when she first arrived. On April 21,1931, she married a farmer named Jim Young. The couple settled in Rose Prairie where they farmed successfully. They had three children; Robert, Dorothy, and Mary.

Anne provided 25 years of expert and loving care. She was always prepared to respond to those in need, often traveling on horseback. Her swift decisions saved many lives.

Her quilt of red embroidery on white cotton, put together with red strips bears the names and birth dates of just 99 of the 300 to 400 babies she delivered over the years. She was also an active member of the Women's Institute.

They later moved to Fort St. John. Mrs. Young passed away on June 2, 1973 at the age of 77.
