Manitoba film shoot of Ogopogo in jeopardy
THE ARTS REPORT - CBC Radio
CANNES - It is now doubtful that a major film project scheduled to start production in Manitoba will go on.
Ogopogo is a $25-million film about the mythical lake creature resident in British Columbia's Lake Okanagan.
It would be the largest film project in Manitoba history.
But a spokesperson for Original Pictures, the company behind the film says the movie's European investors are having second thoughts about Manitoba as a location.
The reasons for the backers hesitation is not known.
The future of the project should become more clear next week. It is estimated that the film would bring as much as $12.5 million into Manitoba.
Ogopogo a go in Manitoba
CBC RADIO ARTS
WINNIPEG - There will be sightings of Ogopogo in Manitoba this summer after all.
The film about the legendary Canadian lake monster is a definite go in the province.
The $27-million project was in doubt last week when the filmmakers considered moving it elsewhere.
Producers of the movie had considered shooting in New Brunswick. But after crunching some numbers and reworking the budget, the decision was made to shoot the film in Manitoba.
The producers say they have lost a week of shooting time, but the film will be completed on schedule.
