Objectives of the Project

The principal objective of the Okanagan Cultural Corridor Project is to diversify the Valley's tourism product, grow its long-haul markets, and increase visitor volume and revenues. At the same time, by increasing earned revenues for the Valley's cultural organizations, the Project will enhance the economic well-being of the Valley's cultural community. Finally, the economic impacts generated by cultural tourism and enjoyed by the entire Valley will provide an economic rationale for increased public and private sector investments in the Valley's cultural resources.

The Project Year-by-Year
In the first year of the Project (2Okanagan Valley000-2001), the Valley's cultural attractions were inventoried and catalogued. In the second year of the Project (now underway), a marketing plan is being devised in cooperation with Tourism British Columbia and the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association. In the third year of the Project (2002-2003), the marketing of the Cultural Corridor will commence. The marketing campaign will include marketing vehicles designed for British Columbia's export markets, and a Cultural Corridor Website with links to the websites of Corridor participants.
