Making Your Own Flies

Make a fishing hook that looks like a bug. If you need some ideas, take a look at different insects. What kinds of colour patterns do they have?

A bee's colour pattern is black, yellow, black...

OR... check out the Haig-Brown fly collection.

Materials Tools
wire vice
thread scissors
feathers pliers
fake fur
tinsel

Directions

  1. Use your fingers and the pliers to bend the wire to make a hook.
(so it looks like a "j")

  2. At the top of the hook, bend the wire into a small loop to make the "eye" of the hook.
(so it looks like a "j" with the dot attached).

  3. Put the hook into something (like a vice) to hold it in place.

  4. Wrap and tie the material onto the wire hook.
