In 1877, Henry Doulton and his brother James purchased an interest in the firm of Pinder, Bourne and Co. of Nile Street, Burslem, who were then producing only earthenwares. The factory continued under the old name up until 1882
Thomas Shadford Pinder retired in 1882, and the Company was then reconstructed under the title Henry Doulton was to add the production of porcelain to his range of earthenwares.
DOULTON was the impressed mark used, 1882 +.

The best known Doulton bone china are the decorative and well modelled figures and groups. While the Lambeth factory had produced stoneware figures over many years, it was not until 1912 that this aspect of production was commenced at the Burslem factory in the bone china body.
