Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade

The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade is responsible for the conduct of Canada's official diplomatic and trade relations with foreign countries including Ukraine. This Department was also responsible for relations with the former Soviet Union and Ukrainian Canadian organizations regularly contacted the Department regarding the question of the independence of Ukraine.

During the 1950s to the early 1990s, representatives of the Ukrainian Canadian community held protests in front of the Soviet Embassy concerning the independence of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Embassy in Ottawa

In Ottawa, the Embassy of Ukraine and the Consulate represent the interests of the Ukrainian government in Canada. The official residence of the Ukrainian Ambassador is also located in Ottawa.
