ooking out the window I see my daughter, Mireille,
playing at the edge of the woods. The tranquility I feel is replaced by
a wave of emotion. I recall the day so many years past that changed my
life forever.
Acadians awaiting deportation.

|
My name is Francoise Delisle. Allow me to tell
you of the Le Grand Derangement. We Acadians have inhabited the western
valley of Nova Scotia since long before the English arrived and took the
Province from France. Believing us to be a threat, they had us physically
removed from the area. We eventually were able to return, yet, our community
has been scarred by the experience. Even those of us who escaped capture
and were not expelled remember the pain and suffering involved. I myself
am one who escaped the deportation. However, my parents did not. |
