In 1605 the first Europeans, lead by Sieur De Monts, arrived upon the beautiful
shores of Nova Scotia. Long before this province was called Nova Scotia
and before Port Royal was established as a European colony, there was Kespitukik.
For thousands of years Mi'kmaq and other native peoples have inhabited
this region. Their rich culture and intimate relationship with nature gave
them a profound respect for all living things. This philosophy would later
help solidify a relationship with the French.
