Downtown Regina (1930-1950's)
Like many communities throughout Canada,
Regina was hard hit by the effects of the Great
Depression, and its effect on the world market
for agriculture products. The building boom of
the 1920's was clearly over with the construction
of new buildings grinding to an abrupt halt.
Regina's downtown core began to experience
slow but steady growth following the Second
World War when increased immigration and
the return of soldiers from overseas helped
rejuvenate the city and stimulate new growth
development.
