Regina is Linked to Alberta Oil

When Alberta oil was discovered in the 1950's
a feeling that prosperity had returned to the Prairies
could be felt. Regina was connected to the Alberta
oil patch in 1951. The pipeline joined Regina to
both Alberta and Eastern Canada. Its development
lead to the opening of the International Pipe
and Steel Company (IPSCO) Steel Mill in Regina.

IPSCO is the largest industrial employer in the city
and was the only integrated steel and pipe producer
in Western Canada at its time. IPSCO began its
operations in 1962 and presently employs directly
and through its subsidiary companies over 2,000
people.

The IPSCO Regina Steelworks has an annual capacity
of 1 million tons of steel a year.
