Regina Today 1990 - Present (2002)
To this day, agriculture and natural resources continue to play a major
role in the city's economy. But the importance of telecommunications,
manufacturing, data management, software development and other
technological industries is growing along with investment from both the
private and public sectors in these areas.

In 1991 new technologies arrived in Regina, The Kramer IMAX Theatre
opened in the Saskatchewan Science Centre. The Hotel Saskatchewan,
which had been an important City landmark was renovated and became
part of the Radisson Hotel Chain in 1993. In 1993 Regina also became
home of the Crown Life Insurance Company of Canada head office,
previously located in Toronto. In 1998 Regina also became the site of an
$11 million Petroleum Technology Research Centre adjacent to the
University of Regina.

In June 19, 1903, the date Regina first became a city it boasted a
population of 3,000. Today that number is over 180,000. Regina has
become a virtual oasis on the prairies. The City of Regina actually owns
over 115,000 trees throughout the 250 parks and other green spaces
within its city limits.
